VSM Operation

~1min read

VSM ON Status

VSM operates when:

  • The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is turned on.
  • Vehicle speed is above approximately 15 km/h on curved roads.
  • The vehicle speed is approximately above 20 km/h when braking on an uneven road.

Operation

When braking under conditions that may activate ESC, you may hear noise from the brakes or feel a corresponding sensation in the brake pedal. This is normal and means that your VSM system is active.

NOTICE

VSM does not activate in the following situations:

  • You are driving on a sloped, inclined, or banked road.
  • Reverse is engaged.
  • The ESC OFF indicator light comes on.
  • The Electronic Power Steering (EPS) warning light ( ) comes on.

VSM OFF Status

To deactivate VSM, press the ESC OFF button. The ESC OFF () indicator light comes on.

To activate VSM, press the ESC OFF button again. The ESC OFF indicator light turns off.

WARNING

If the ESC indicator ( ) or the EPS warning light ( ) remains on, there may be a malfunction in the VSM system. If the warning light stays on, we recommend having the vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.

NOTICE

Driving with tires or wheels of different sizes may cause the ESC system to malfunction. Be sure to replace tires only with tires of the same size as the original tires for this vehicle.
