Using ABS
To get the maximum benefit from your ABS in an emergency, do not attempt to modulate brake pressure and do not pump the brakes. Press the brake pedal as hard as necessary.
When braking on slippery surfaces where the wheels may lock, you may hear a clicking sound from the brakes or feel a corresponding sensation in the brake pedal. This condition is normal and means that your ABS is active.
ABS does not reduce the time or distance required to stop the vehicle.
Always maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you.
ABS helps prevent skidding, which can lead to sudden changes in direction, for example, when trying to turn too quickly or when the road surface changes suddenly. Always drive at a safe speed appropriate to road and weather conditions.
ABS cannot prevent loss of vehicle stability. Always keep steering smooth during sudden braking. Sudden steering movements or excessive speed may direct your vehicle into the oncoming lane. Steer back or move the vehicle off the road.
On uneven or slippery surfaces, ABS operation may result in a longer stopping distance than on vehicles equipped with a conventional brake system.
ABS warning light (
) illuminates for a few seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. During this time, the ABS performs a self-check, and the light turns off if all is normal. If the light does not turn off, there may be a problem with the ABS. We recommend that you have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
WARNING
If the ABS warning light (
) comes on and stays on, there may be a problem with the ABS. Your normal brakes will still operate normally. To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injury, we recommend that you contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
WARNING
When driving on a road with poor traction, such as an icy road, and you repeatedly apply the brakes, the ABS will remain active and the ABS warning light (
) may come on. Park the vehicle in a safe place and turn off the engine.
Restart the engine. If the ABS warning light does not come on, the ABS is operating normally. Otherwise, there may be a problem with the ABS. We recommend that you have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
Intelligent
When starting the vehicle with jump leads due to a discharged battery, the ABS warning light (
) may come on at the same time. This is caused by low battery voltage. It does not mean that the ABS is malfunctioning. Charge the battery before driving the vehicle.
