Driving Your Vehicle
Good Driving Practices
In this manual: Driving Your Vehicle
~2min read
- Never shift the shift lever from P (Park) or N (Neutral) to any other position with the accelerator pedal depressed.
- Never shift the shift lever into P (Park) while the vehicle is moving. Make sure the vehicle has come to a complete stop before attempting to shift into R (Reverse) or D (Drive).
- Do not shift the shift lever to N (Neutral) while driving. Doing so may result in an accident because of loss of engine braking, and the transmission may be damaged.
- Do not drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal. Although the pressure may be light, constant pressure on the pedal may cause the brakes to overheat, brake wear, and possibly even brake failure.
- When driving in manual shift mode, reduce speed before downshifting. Otherwise, the lower gear cannot be engaged if the engine speed goes beyond the permissible range.
- Always apply the parking brake when leaving the vehicle. Do not rely on placing the transmission in P (Park) to keep the vehicle from rolling.
- Use extreme caution when driving on slippery surfaces. Be especially careful when braking, accelerating, or shifting gears. On a slippery surface, a sudden change in vehicle speed may cause the driving wheels to lose traction with the road and may result in loss of vehicle control and an accident.
- Optimum vehicle performance and fuel economy are achieved by depressing and releasing the accelerator pedal smoothly.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
- ALWAYS wear your seat belt. In a collision, an unbelted occupant is much more likely to be seriously injured or killed than a properly belted occupant.
- Avoid high speeds in curves or turns.
- Do not make sudden steering movements, such as abrupt lane changes or quick, sharp turns.
- The risk of rollover greatly increases if you lose control of your vehicle at highway speeds.
- Loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels leave the roadway and the driver overcorrects to re-enter the roadway.
- If your vehicle leaves the roadway, do not steer sharply. Instead, slow down gradually before returning to the roadway.
- HYUNDAI recommends that you obey all posted speed limits.
Information - Kickdown Mechanism (if equipped)
Use kickdown for maximum acceleration. Depress the accelerator pedal beyond the detent point. The automatic transmission will downshift to a lower gear depending on engine speed.
