Steering wheel paddle switch

~2min read
Hyundai i30. Paddle shifter

The paddle shifters operate when the shift lever is in the D (Drive) position or manual shift mode.

With the shift lever in D

The paddle shifters will operate when the vehicle speed is above 10 km/h.

Pull the [+] or [-] paddle shift once to shift up or down one gear. The system changes from automatic mode to manual mode.

When the vehicle speed is below 10 km/h, if the accelerator pedal is depressed for more than 5 seconds, or if you move the shift lever from D (Drive) to manual shift mode and back from manual shift mode to D (Drive), the system switches from manual mode to automatic mode.

With the shift lever in manual shift mode

Pull the [+] or [-] paddle shift once to shift up or down one gear.

Information

If the paddle shifters [+] and [-] are pressed at the same time, gear shifting may not occur.

Shift-Lock System. Shift-Lock Release

Shift Lock System

For your safety, the dual clutch transmission has a shift-lock system that prevents shifting from P (Park) to R (Reverse) unless the brake pedal is depressed.

To shift from P (Park) to R (Reverse):

1. Depress and hold the brake pedal.

2. Start the engine or turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

3. Move the shift lever.

Shift Lock Release

If the shift lever cannot be moved from P (Park) to R (Reverse) with the brake pedal depressed, continue depressing the brake pedal, then perform the following steps:
