Cruise Control Operation

~1min read

ESC On Condition

When the ignition switch is in the ON position, the ESC and ESC OFF indicators illuminate for approximately three seconds and then turn off, after which ESC is on.

During Operation

When ESC is operating, the ESC indicator flashes:

  • When you apply the brake under conditions that may cause the wheels to lock, you may hear brake noise or feel a corresponding pulsation in the brake pedal. This is normal and indicates that ESC is active.
  • When ESC is operating, the engine may not respond to the accelerator pedal as it does under normal conditions.
  • If cruise control was in use when ESC was activated, cruise control will automatically cancel. Cruise control can be turned on again when road conditions allow. See "Cruise Control System" later in this chapter. (if equipped)
  • When driving out of mud or on a slippery road, engine speed (RPM) may not increase even when the accelerator pedal is pressed deeply. This is necessary to maintain vehicle stability and traction and does not indicate a problem.

ESC OFF Condition

To cancel ESC operation:

• Condition 1

Briefly press the ESC OFF button. The ESC OFF indicator will illuminate and the message "Traction Control Off" will appear. In this condition, the ESC traction control function (engine control) is disabled, but the ESC brake control function (brake control) remains active.

• Condition 2

Press and hold the ESC OFF button for more than 3 seconds. The ESC OFF indicator will illuminate, the message "Traction and Stability Control Off" will appear, and a warning chime will sound. In this condition, both the ESC traction control function (engine control) and the ESC brake control function (brake control) are disabled.

If the ignition switch is in the LOCK/OFF position while ESC is off, ESC remains off. After restarting the vehicle, ESC will automatically turn on again.
