Description and Operation
Description
The camshaft position sensor (CMPS) is a Hall-effect sensor that detects the camshaft position using a Hall element. It works together with the crankshaft position sensor (CKPS) and identifies the piston position of each cylinder, which cannot be detected by the CKPS system. Two CMPS sensors are installed on the cylinder head cover for bank 1 and bank 2 (intake and exhaust), respectively, and use the target wheel installed on the camshaft. When a target wheel tooth passes the Hall sensor, the magnetic field in the sensor changes. The sensor then switches the signal, which creates a square wave.
