Repair Procedures

Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Air Cleaner")
  3. Remove the battery tray. (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Battery")
  4. Disconnect the ECM connector (A).
  5. Remove the engine control module (ECM) bracket assembly (B) after loosening the mounting bolt and nut. ECM bracket mounting bolt/nut: 9.8 - 11.8 N·m
    Hyundai Palisade. Repair procedures
  6. Remove the ECM by loosening the mounting nuts (A) and bolt (B).

    ECM mounting bolt/nut: 9.8 - 11.8 N·m

    Hyundai Palisade. Repair procedures

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.

ECM Circuit Inspection Procedure

  1. ECM GROUND CIRCUIT INSPECTION: Measure the resistance between the ECM ground point and chassis ground, using the rear of the ECM harness connector to check at the ECM side. If a problem is found, repair it.

    Specification: Less than 1 ohm

  2. ECM CONNECTOR INSPECTION: Disconnect the ECM connector and visually inspect the ground terminals on the ECM side and the harness side for bent pins or poor contact pressure. If a problem is found, repair it.
  3. If the problem is not found in steps 1 and 2, the ECM may be faulty. In this case, before replacing the ECM, make sure there are no DTCs, then install a new ECM and recheck the vehicle. If DTCs are found, check them before replacing the ECM.
  4. RECHECK THE ORIGINAL ECM: Install the original ECM (suspected faulty) in a known good vehicle and check the vehicle. If the problem recurs, replace the original ECM with a new one. If the problem does not recur, it is an intermittent problem. (Refer to "Intermittent Problem Check Procedure" in the "Basic Inspection" section.)

Adjustment

ECM Neutral Mode Procedure (with Immobilizer)
  • After replacing the ECM on a vehicle with an immobilizer system, the following procedure must be performed.
[When Installing Used ECM]
  1. Perform the "ECM Neutral Mode" procedure using the diagnostic tool. (Refer to Body Electrical System - "Immobilizer System")
  2. After completing "ECM Neutral Mode", perform the "Key Learning" procedure using the diagnostic tool. (Refer to Body Electrical System - "Immobilizer System")
[When Installing New ECM]
  • Perform the "Key Learning" procedure using the diagnostic tool. (Refer to Body Electrical System - "Immobilizer System")
ECM Neutral Mode Procedure (with Smart Key)
  • After replacing the ECM on a vehicle with a smart key system (push button start), the following procedure must be performed.
[When Installing Used ECM]
  1. Perform the "ECM Neutral Mode" procedure using the diagnostic tool. (Refer to Body Electrical System - "Smart Key System")
  2. After completing "ECM Neutral Mode", turn the ignition on and then off using the smart key or push button start. The ECM will then automatically learn the smart key information. (Refer to Body Electrical System - "Smart Key System")
[When Installing New ECM]
  • Turn the ignition on and then off using the smart key or push button start. The ECM will then automatically learn the smart key information. (Refer to Body Electrical System - "Smart Key System")
ETC Module Learning Procedure: Perform the learning procedure for the ETC module after replacing the ETC module. (Refer to Electronic Throttle Control System - "Adjustment") VIN Programming Procedure: The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is the number containing vehicle information (manufacturer, vehicle type, model line/series, body type, engine type, transmission type, model year, plant location, etc.). For more information, refer to the "GI" group in this SERVICE MANUAL. When replacing the ECM, the VIN must be programmed into the ECM. If there is no VIN in the ECM memory, a malfunction will set Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC P0630).
