Description and Operation
Description
The crankshaft position sensor (CKPS) detects the crankshaft position and is one of the most important sensors in the engine control system. Loss of the CKPS signal may cause the engine to stop. Installed on the cylinder block or transaxle housing, it generates an alternating current by the magnetic flux field created by the sensor and the target wheel while the engine is running. The target wheel has 58 slots and 2 missing slots at 360 degrees CA (crank angle).
