Description and Operation
Description
Built into the manifold absolute pressure sensor, intake air temperature sensor. The sensor (IATS) detects the intake air temperature. For accurate air quantity calculation, air temperature correction is required because air density depends on temperature. Therefore, the ECM uses both the MAPS signal and the IATS signal. This sensor is a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor with resistance inversely proportional to temperature.

Repair Procedures
Inspection
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the IAT sensor connector.
- Measure the resistance between terminals 3 and 4 of the IAT sensor.
- Make sure the resistance is within specification.
Temperature Resistance (kOhm) °C °F -40 -40 40,93 - 48,35 -20 -4 13.89 - 16.03 0 32 5.38 - 6.09 10 50 3,48 - 3,90 20 68 2,31 - 2,57 40 104 1,08 - 1,21 60 140 0,54 - 0,66 80 176 0,29 - 0,34
Removal
- Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose (A).
- Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor connector (B).
- Remove the sensor by loosening the mounting bolt. Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS) Mounting Bolt: 9.8–11.8 N·m

Installation
|
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
