Each time the button is pressed, the vehicle-to-vehicle distance changes as follows:

For example, if you are driving at 56 mph (90 km/h), the distance is maintained as follows:

Distance 4 - approximately 172 ft
Distance 3 - approximately 130 ft
Distance 2 - approximately 106 ft
Distance 1 - approximately 82 ft

Information

The distance is set to the last set distance when the system is used for the first time after the engine is started.

When the lane ahead is clear:

The vehicle speed will be maintained at the set speed.

When there is a vehicle ahead of you in your lane:

  • Your vehicle speed will decrease or increase to maintain the selected distance.
  • If the vehicle ahead accelerates, your vehicle will move at a constant cruising speed after accelerating to the set speed.
  • If the distance to the vehicle ahead changes due to acceleration or deceleration of the vehicle ahead, the distance shown on the LCD cluster display may change.

WARNING

When using Smart Cruise Control system:

  • A warning message and warning chime will appear if the vehicle is unable to maintain the selected distance from the vehicle ahead.
  • If a warning message and warning chime appear, press the brake pedal or use the steering wheel switch to take active control of the vehicle speed and distance to the vehicle ahead.
  • Even if no warning message appears and no warning chime sounds, always pay attention to driving conditions to prevent hazardous situations from occurring.
  • Playing the vehicle audio system at high volume may prevent the occupants from hearing the system warning sound.

CAUTION

If the vehicle ahead (vehicle speed: less than 20 mph (30 km/h)) moves into another lane, a warning chime and the message "Watch for surrounding vehicles" will sound. Adjust your vehicle speed by pressing the brake pedal for vehicles or objects that may suddenly appear in front of you.

Always pay attention to the road conditions ahead.

In traffic situations

Use the switch or pedal to accelerate

  • In traffic, your vehicle will stop if the vehicle ahead of you stops. Also, if the vehicle ahead of you starts moving, your vehicle will start as well. However, if the vehicle remains stopped for more than 3 seconds, depress the accelerator pedal, or push the (RES+) switch or push the (SET-) switch, to start moving.
  • If you press the Smart Cruise Control switch (RES+ or SET-) while Auto Hold is operating with Smart Cruise Control, Auto Hold will be released regardless of the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle will start to move. The AUTO HOLD indicator changes color from green to white.
