Trailer Sway Assist (TSA)

~2min read

The Trailer Sway Assist system helps stabilize the vehicle and trailer when the trailer sways or oscillates. There are various causes that can make the vehicle sway and oscillate.

Factors causing sway include:

- High speed
- Strong crosswind
- Improper load distribution
- Sudden loss of steering wheel control
- Uneven road surface

The Trailer Sway Assist system constantly analyzes vehicle and trailer instability. When the system detects some sway, the brakes are applied automatically on the front wheels to stabilize the vehicle. However, if this is not sufficient to stabilize the vehicle, the brakes are applied automatically on all wheels and engine power is reduced. When the vehicle is stable and free of sway, the Trailer Sway Assist system does not operate.

Proper Braking Practices

WARNING

Whenever leaving the vehicle or parking, always come to a complete stop and keep the brake pedal pressed. Shift the gear selector to P (Park), then apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch to the LOCK/OFF position.

Vehicles parked on an incline with the parking brake not applied or not fully engaged may roll unintentionally and may cause injury to the driver and others. ALWAYS apply the parking brake fully before leaving the vehicle.

Wet brakes can be dangerous! Brakes may get wet when the vehicle is driven through standing water or when it is washed. Your vehicle will not stop as quickly if the brakes are wet. Wet brakes may cause the vehicle to pull to one side.

To dry the brakes, lightly depress the brake pedal until braking action returns to normal, making sure the vehicle is always under control. If braking action does not return to normal, stop as soon as it is safe to do so and contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer for assistance.

Do NOT drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal. Even light but constant pressure on the pedal may cause brake overheating, brake wear, and possibly even brake failure.

If a tire goes flat while driving, gently depress the brake and keep the vehicle straight ahead while you slow down. When you are moving slowly enough to do so safely, drive off the road and stop in a safe place.

Keep your foot firmly on the brake pedal when the vehicle is stopped to prevent the vehicle from rolling forward.
