2. Evaporative Emission Control System

~1min read

The evaporative emission control system is designed to prevent fuel vapor from being released into the atmosphere.

Charcoal Canister

Fuel vapors generated in the fuel tank are absorbed and stored in the charcoal canister. While the engine is running, the fuel absorbed in this canister is drawn into the intake manifold through the purge control solenoid valve.

Purge Control Solenoid Valve

The purge control solenoid valve is controlled by the engine control module. When the engine is idling and the coolant temperature is low, the solenoid valve closes to prevent evaporated fuel from entering the engine. Once the engine warms up and operates at normal speed, the solenoid valve opens, allowing evaporated fuel to enter the engine.
