Underbody Maintenance

~1min read

Corrosive substances used for de-icing, snow, and dust may accumulate on the underside of the body. If they are not removed, they may accelerate rust formation on underbody parts such as fuel lines, chassis, floor, and exhaust system, even if these parts have been treated against rust.

Thoroughly wash the underbody and wheel arches with warm or cold water once a month, after driving off-road, and at the end of winter. Pay special attention to these areas, as dirt and mud are not easily visible there. Take care to thoroughly remove dirt, as careless cleaning may do more harm than good.

The bottom of the doors, sills, and structural members are equipped with drain holes that must not be blocked. Accumulation of water at the level of these holes may cause rust to form.

WARNING

After washing the vehicle, check the brakes by driving slowly and checking that they operate normally. If braking performance has decreased, lightly depress the brake pedal while driving forward at low speed to dry the brakes.
