Checking the Coolant Level
WARNING
Radiator cap removal
• Do not open the radiator cap while the engine is running or hot. This may cause damage to the cooling system and engine, and may cause serious injury from hot coolant or steam being expelled.
• Stop the engine and wait until it cools down.
Use extra caution when removing the radiator cap. Wrap the cap with a thick cloth and slowly turn it counterclockwise to the first stop.
Step aside while the cooling system pressure is released. After making sure the pressure has been released, press down on the radiator cap using a thick cloth, and while continuing to turn counterclockwise, remove the cap.
• Even if the engine is stopped, do not remove the radiator cap or drain plug until the engine and radiator have cooled down. Until then, hot coolant and pressurized steam may cause serious injury.
WARNING
The electric motor (cooling fan) operation is controlled by engine coolant temperature, refrigerant pressure and vehicle speed.
Sometimes it may operate even when the engine is stopped. Use extreme caution when working near the fan blades to avoid injury from the rotating fan blades. When the coolant temperature drops, the electric motor turns off automatically. This is normal.

Check all hoses of the cooling and heating systems and their connections. Replace any worn or swollen hoses.
The coolant level should be between the F (Full) and L (Low) marks on the side of the engine cooling system reservoir.
If the level is low, add a sufficient amount of recommended coolant to provide freeze and corrosion protection. Fill to the "F" mark, but do not overfill.
If coolant must be added too frequently, have an authorized HYUNDAI dealer inspect the cooling system.

To add coolant, perform the following steps:
1. Open the cap.
2. Pull out the sliding neck and turn it in the direction of the arrow to lock it in place.
3. Add coolant.
Recommended engine coolant
• When adding coolant, use only deionized or soft water. Do not add hard water to the original coolant. Mistakes when mixing coolant may cause serious malfunction or engine damage.
• The engine has aluminum components and must be protected from corrosion and freezing with ethylene glycol-based coolant.
• DO NOT use methyl or ethyl alcohol, and do not add them to the recommended coolants.
• Do not use solutions containing more than 60% or less than 35% antifreeze, as their effectiveness is reduced.
The percentage of the mixture components is shown in the following table.

WARNING
radiator cap
Do not open the radiator cap when the engine and radiator are hot. Hot coolant and pressurized steam may cause serious injury.
