If the driver's seat belt is not fastened, or the hood, tailgate or doors are open, and you try to drive with the EPB applied, a warning sound will sound and a message will appear.
WARNING
To avoid serious injury or death from unintended vehicle movement:
- Always come to a complete stop and continue to depress the brake pedal before parking. Shift the transmission to P (Park), pull up the EPB switch and turn the ignition switch to the LOCK/OFF position. Take the key with you when leaving the vehicle.
- Never allow anyone unfamiliar with the vehicle to touch the EPB switch.
- Release the EPB only when you are seated inside the vehicle with your foot firmly on the brake pedal.
NOTICE
Driving with the parking brake applied may overheat the brake system and cause premature wear or damage to brake components.
