ESC OFF Condition

~1min read

To cancel ESC operation:

Status 1

Briefly press the ESC OFF button. The ESC OFF indicator light comes on and the "Traction Control Off" message illuminates.

The ESC traction control function (engine control) is turned off, but the ESC brake control function (brake control) continues to operate.

Status 2

Press and hold the ESC OFF button continuously for more than 3 seconds. The ESC OFF indicator light comes on, the "Traction and Stability Control Off" message illuminates and a warning chime sounds. Both the ESC traction control function (engine control) and the ESC brake control function (brake control) are turned off.

If the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK/OFF position while ESC is off, ESC remains off. After restarting the vehicle, ESC turns on automatically again.

Indicator Light

When the ignition switch is in the ON position, the ESC indicator light comes on, then goes off if the ESC system is operating normally.

The ESC indicator flashes whenever ESC is operating.

If the ESC indicator light stays on, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.

The ESC OFF indicator illuminates when ESC is turned off.

WARNING

When the ESC indicator flashes, it means ESC is active:

  • Drive slowly and NEVER attempt to accelerate quickly.
  • Never turn ESC off while the ESC indicator light is flashing. You may lose control of the vehicle and crash.

Information

Driving with wheels and tires of different sizes may cause the ESC system to malfunction. Before replacing tires, make sure all four tires and wheels are the correct size for your vehicle. Never drive the vehicle with mismatched wheels and tires installed.
