Repair Procedures

Inspection

Fuel Pump Motor

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Remove the fuel pump assembly.

  3. Check the fuel pump motor operation by connecting the power (No. 4) and ground (No. 5) connector of the fuel pump (A).

    Pin No. Description
    1 Fuel sensor ground (-)
    2 -
    3 Fuel sensor signal (+)
    4 Fuel Pump Motor (+)
    5 Fuel Pump Motor (-)

Fuel Sender

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Remove the fuel pump assembly.

  3. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 3 of the sensor connector (A) at each float level.

    Pin No. Description
    1 Fuel sensor ground (-)
    2 -
    3 Fuel sensor signal (+)
    4 Fuel Pump Motor (+)
    5 Fuel Pump Motor (-)
  4. Also check that the resistance changes smoothly as the float moves from "E" to "F".

    Position Resistance (Ω) Capacity (L)
    E 298 - 305 2,7
    1/2 85,5 - 87,5 23,4
    F 14 - 16 44.1

Removal and Installation

  1. Release the residual pressure in the fuel line.

(See Fuel System - "Relieve Fuel Line Residual Pressure")

  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  3. Remove the rear seat cushion.

(See Body - "Rear Seat Assembly")

  4. Remove the fuel pump service cover (A).

  5. Disconnect the fuel pump connector (A).

  6. Disconnect the quick-connector of the fuel supply line (B) and the quick-connect evaporative hose connector (C).

  7. Remove the plate cover (A) after removing the mounting bolts, then remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank.

  8. Remove the fuel pump.

  9. Install in the reverse order of removal.
