Check the battery voltage. (The low beam will turn on when battery voltage is above 9 V.)
Check the fuse and relay.
Check the ballast polarity. (If the polarity is reversed, the low beam does not illuminate.)
Securely check the bulb connector.
Visually inspect the bulb (no filament): glass damaged, upper and lower parts of the glass tube damaged.
After (1) through (5), replace the ballast and igniter (ballast assembly).
If the headlight goes off after a certain period of operation but illuminates immediately when the headlight switch is turned on, the HID bulb most likely needs to be replaced.

Notes
1
Bulb Assembly Replacement
Disconnect the power connector from the bulb.
Remove and replace the bulb assembly.
Connect the power connector.
Disconnect the headlight power connector to avoid high voltage.
Other procedures are the same as for halogen bulbs.
2
Bulb Replacement
Disconnect the power connector from the bulb. (Headlight, turn signal, headlight leveling)
Remove the bulb assembly.
Remove the ballast and dust cover.
Remove the bulb socket and replace the bulb.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
Disconnect the headlight power connector to avoid high voltage.
Be careful not to damage the bulb, and use only genuine bulbs.
Do not apply excessive force, and install it correctly.
3
Ballast Replacement (with Built-in Igniter)
Disconnect the power connector from the bulb.
Remove the bulb, then the ballast and dust cover.
Remove the headlight leveling actuator, and then the bulb socket.
Connect the bulb socket to the replacement ballast and install the leveling device.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
Disconnect the headlight power connector to avoid high voltage.
Replace only the ballast and install the used bulb.
Replace the auxiliary unit, except the ballast.
4
Other
The power source must match the rated capacity.
Use a fuse and wire of the rated capacity.
The bulb socket must be free of moisture and dirt.
Do not subject the ballast to strong impact, water, or extreme
All parts must be serviced only at designated service centers.
Do not install the HID bulb in other vehicles (dangerous, fire may occur).
Do not use the HID bulb in other vehicles (fire may occur). A fire may occur when the discharge bulb initially lights, because the arc discharge generates high voltage (max. 30,000 V) and high current (12-13 A), and differs from the halogen bulb specification.
Understanding color change when replacing the HID bulb.
Cause of HID color change. (Color change is a characteristic of HID)
Color change occurs by mixing three elements in the discharge bulb.
Color coordinates over bulb life
Chemical compounds in the arc tube:
Xenon gas (inert gas, protects the arc tube)
Mercury (increases voltage, protects the arc tube, blue during the first 3 seconds)
Metal halide
Sodium (yellow): 0.12 mg
Scandium (blue): 0.06 mg
Iodine (halogen): 0.02 mg
Color change over lighting time
A minimum of 4 seconds is required for stabilization. Initially, you may see blue light for 3 seconds due to mercury.
After stabilization, the color changes due to the metal halide.
0 hours: yellow (Na greater than Sc).
10 hours: bright blue (Na and Sc ratio is equal).
Over 1000 hours: blue (Sc greater than Na).
End of service life: when the HID has depleted the sodium and scandium, the light beam suddenly becomes dark, so you may see red or purple and the light flickers on and off.
Vibration resistant, since there is no filament.
The HID bulb has a longer service life than the halogen bulb.
Does not operate if polarity is reversed.
Operating input voltage: 9-16 V
Inspection
Removal
Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Remove the front bumper. (Refer to BD group - "Front Bumper")
Loosen the headlamp mounting bolts (A) (2 pcs) and disconnect the headlamp connector (B). Then remove the headlamp assembly (C).
Be careful not to scratch the headlight lens or the fender.
Be careful not to damage the clip (A).
For HID type, disconnect the headlight leveling actuator connector (A).
Remove the dust caps from the headlamp unit by turning them counterclockwise. A: High Beam Cap B: Low Beam Cap
Installation
Install the headlamp bulbs.
Connect the connectors.
Install the headlamp mounting bolts (2 pcs).
Connect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Headlamp Aiming Instructions
Aim the headlamps with the correct beam setting equipment, and follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions.
If there are any regulations regarding headlamp aiming in the area where the vehicle will be used, adjust the aim to meet those requirements.
Turn the adjusting mechanism alternately to aim the headlight. Target. If beam setting equipment is not available, perform the following:
Inflate the tires to the specified pressure and remove all loads from the vehicle except the driver, spare tire, and tools.
The vehicle must be on a level floor.
Draw vertical lines (vertical lines passing through the respective centers of the headlamps) and a horizontal line (horizontal line passing through the center of the headlamps) on the screen.
When the headlamp and battery are in normal condition, aim the headlamps so that the brightest part falls on the horizontal and vertical lines. [Standard] A: Vertical (High and Low)[Option] A: Vertical (High) B: Vertical (Low)
Front Fog Lamp Aiming: The front fog lamps must be aimed in the same way as the headlamps. When the front fog lamps and battery are in normal condition, aim the front fog lamps by turning the adjusting screw (A) with a screwdriver.
[Standard]
[Option]
Headlamp and Fog Lamp Aiming Point
[Standard]
[Option]
Headlamp (Low Beam)
Turn on the low beam without the driver.
The light-dark boundary line must project onto the light-dark boundary line shown in the illustration.
If a headlamp leveling device is installed, set the headlamp leveling switch to position 0.
Turn on the front fog lamp without the driver in the vehicle. The light-dark boundary should project within the permissible range (shaded area).
Replacement
Headlamp (low beam)
[Standard]
Turn off the headlamp switch.
Disconnect the power connector from the bulb.
Remove the low beam bulb cap.
Disconnect the connector (A).
Turn the bulb and socket (A) counterclockwise to remove the turn signal lamp.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
Headlamp (low beam)
[Hidden]
Turn off the headlamp switch.
Disconnect the power connector from the bulb.
Remove the low beam bulb cap.
Remove the igniter fixing clip (A).
Remove the igniter (B) after disconnecting the connector (A).
Installation is the reverse of removal.
Turn off the headlamp switch to avoid high voltage. Be careful not to damage the bulb, and use only genuine bulbs.
Do not apply excessive force, and install it correctly.
Check that the bulb is locked.
Turn off the headlamp switch.
Remove the headlamp assembly.
Disconnect the power connector from the bulb.
Remove the ballast (A) after removing the screws (3 pcs) and the connector.
Be careful not to damage the ballast connector when disconnecting it.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
Turn off the headlights to avoid high voltage.
Do not use the HID lamp on other vehicles (fire may occur).
Fire may occur when the discharge lamp initially lights up, because the arc discharge generates high voltage (max. 20,000 V) and high current (12-13 A), and differs from the halogen lamp specification.
Install the dust cover after checking the locking condition between the lamp and the socket.
When inspecting the HID headlamp, turn the power on or off using the switch between the power source and the lamp because of the high voltage.
Do not turn on the headlight switch with the lamp not installed, as it will generate a spark instantly.
Turn off the headlamp power.
Disconnect the power connector from the bulb.
Remove the headlamp (high beam) cap.
Remove the connector (A) and the retaining clip (B).
Remove the headlamp (high beam) bulb.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
