Description and Operation

Description

  • The forward collision-avoidance assist (FCA) radar sends a signal to detect a vehicle ahead based on the calculated distance. FCA applies the brakes to avoid or reduce a collision with the vehicle ahead caused by driver distraction or a delayed braking response.

  • The system detects road hazards using the front camera and radar sensor, warns the driver, and activates emergency braking to prevent a collision or reduce collision speed.

Operation

※ The indicated time will vary depending on vehicle speed.

  • Step 1: Issue a visual (display) and audible warning when a hazard is detected.

  • Step 2: Reduce engine torque and activate FCA when there is a high probability of collision.

  • Step 3: Activate emergency braking when a collision is unavoidable.

  • After the vehicle stops: Maintain braking control for a specified time, then release it.

Components and Component Location

Components

The FCA system configuration is shown below.

  • Detection device (radar and camera) capable of recognizing potential obstacles ahead.

  • Human Machine Interface (HMI) to warn the driver or change settings.

  • Brake system for automatic braking of the vehicle.

FCA must operate on a stationary vehicle, so the system uses Fusion Target to combine the radar with the camera.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) switch is built into the cluster in the User Settings Mode (USM) menu, allowing the driver to turn the FCA system on or off. The FCA system (status) is ON by default and does not return to the driver's previous setting at the next ignition cycle.

If the ESP function is turned off, the FCA function is also turned off.

Removal

FCA Radar

  1. Remove the FCA radar.

D 2.2 R VGT (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar").

D 2.2 R VGT (Enhanced Euro 6) (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar")

D G 2.0 T-GDI THETA II (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar")

D G 3.3 T-GDI LAMBDA II (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar")

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKA) Unit

FCA, unlike SCC with S&G, must operate on a stationary vehicle, so the system uses Fusion Target, which combines the radar and camera.

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

  2. Remove the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) unit.

(Refer to Body Electrical System - "Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) Unit").

Installation

FCA Radar

  1. Install the FCA radar.

D 2.2 R VGT (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar").

D 2.2 R VGT (Enhanced Euro 6) (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar")

D G 2.0 T-GDI THETA II (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar")

D G 3.3 T-GDI LAMBDA II (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar")

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) Unit

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Adjustment

FCA Radar

  1. Perform radar alignment of the Smart Cruise Control (SCC with S&G) unit.

D 2.2 R VGT (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar").

D 2.2 R VGT (Enhanced Euro 6) (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar")

D G 2.0 T-GDI THETA II (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar")

D G 3.3 T-GDI LAMBDA II (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Smart Cruise Control (Stop & Go) (SCC) Unit-Radar")

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) Unit

  1. Perform Automatic Target Point Alignment Calibration (SPTAC).

(Refer to Body Electrical System - "Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)")
