Battery Charged

~1min read

Your vehicle is equipped with a maintenance-free calcium-based battery.

  • If the battery is discharged briefly (for example, when the headlights or interior lights are left on while the vehicle is parked), charge the battery slowly for more than ten hours.
  • If the battery is gradually discharged during vehicle use due to high electrical load, charge the battery with a 20-30 A quick charger for two hours.

WARNING

Charging the Battery

Observe the following safety instructions when charging the battery:

  • The battery must be removed from the vehicle and placed in a well-ventilated area.
  • Keep lit cigarettes, sparks and open flames away from the battery.
  • Keep the battery under observation while charging, and stop charging or reduce the charging current when the cells are gassing strongly (boiling) or when the temperature of the battery cells exceeds 49°C (120°F).
  • Wear protective goggles when charging or testing the battery.
  • Disconnect the charger in the following order.
    1. Switch off the charger main switch.
    2. Disconnect the negative cable from the negative battery terminal.
    3. Disconnect the positive cable from the positive battery terminal.

WARNING

  • Turn off the engine and switch off all electrical loads before removing the battery. Wait or charge as required.

  • Battery work should be performed by a specialized workshop. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer or service partner.
