Checking the Engine Oil Level

  1. Make sure the vehicle is on level ground.
  2. Start the engine and let it reach normal operating temperature.
  3. Turn off the engine and wait about 5 minutes for the oil to drain back into the oil pan.
  4. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean and reinsert it fully.
WARNING - Hose

Be careful not to touch the hose while checking the oil or adding oil. It is hot enough to burn you.

  1. Remove the dipstick again and check the level. It should be between the F and L marks.
CAUTION
  • Do not overfill the engine with oil, as this could damage it.
  • Be careful not to spill engine oil when adding or draining it. If oil spills in the engine compartment, wipe it up immediately.

If the level is near L, add enough oil to bring it up to F. Do not add too much.

Use a funnel to avoid spilling oil onto engine components.

Use only the specified engine oil (see "Recommended Lubricants and Capacities" in section 8.)

Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement

Have the oil change and filter replacement performed by an authorized Kia dealer, according to the maintenance schedule provided at the beginning of this section.

WARNING

Used engine oil can cause skin irritation or skin cancer after prolonged contact. Used engine oil contains chemicals that have caused cancer in laboratory animals.

Always protect your skin by washing your hands thoroughly with warm, soapy water as soon as possible after handling used oil.
