Fuses

Fuses protect the vehicle's electrical system from damage caused by overload.
This vehicle has 2 fuse panels: one behind the driver's side quarter trim panel and the other in the engine compartment near the battery.
If lamps, accessories or controls stop working, check the fuse for the appropriate circuit. If a fuse has blown, the element inside the fuse will be melted.
If the electrical system does not work, first check the fuse panel on the driver's side.
Always replace a blown fuse with one of the same amperage.
If the replacement fuse blows, this indicates an electrical problem. Avoid using the defective system and contact an authorized Kia dealer immediately.
Three types of fuses are used: blade fuses for low amperage, cartridge and self-resetting fuses for high amperage.
WARNING - Replacing fuses- Never replace a fuse with anything other than a fuse of the same amperage.
- A higher amperage fuse could cause damage and possibly a fire.
- Never replace a fuse with a wire, even for a temporary repair. You could cause serious wiring damage and even a fire.
Do not use a screwdriver or any metal tool to remove a fuse, as you could cause a short circuit and damage the system.

Replacing a fuse in the interior fuse panel
- Turn off the ignition and all other switches.
- Open the fuse panel cover.

- Pull straight out the suspect fuse. Use the fuse puller provided on the fuse panel in the engine compartment.
- Check the removed fuse and replace it if blown.
- Insert a new fuse of the same amperage and make sure it is firmly seated in the clips.
If it is loose, contact an authorized Kia dealer.
If you do not have a spare fuse, use a fuse of the same amperage from another circuit that you do not need to operate the vehicle.
If the headlamps or other electrical components do not work and the fuses are in good condition, check the fuse box in the engine compartment.
If a fuse has blown, you must replace it.

Memory protection fuse
Your vehicle is equipped with a memory protection fuse that prevents the battery from discharging if you do not use your vehicle for an extended period. Follow these steps before parking your vehicle for an extended period.
- Switch off the engine.
- Turn off the headlamps and tail lamps.
- Open the driver's side fuse panel cover and remove the memory protection fuse.
NOTICE
- If the memory protection fuse is removed, the warning chime, the high-fidelity audio system, the clock and the interior lighting, etc., will not operate.
Some items will need to be reset after the fuse is replaced.
See "Battery" in this section.
Replacing a fuse in the engine compartment
- Turn off the ignition and all other switches.
- Remove the fuse box cover by pressing the tab and pulling the cover off.
- To remove or install a fuse, use the fuse puller provided in the engine compartment fuse box.
After checking the fuse box in the engine compartment, reinstall the box cover securely. Otherwise, it will not be watertight and water infiltration may cause electrical problems.

Main fuse
If the main fuse has blown, remove it as follows:
- Turn off the engine.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the nuts shown in the illustration above.
- Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
- Reinstall the nuts and the battery cable.

Self-resetting fuse
If the resettable fuse has blown, remove it as follows:
- Remove the fuse panel cover in the engine compartment.
- Remove the nuts shown in the illustration above.
- Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
- Reinstall the nuts and the battery cable.

If the start button fuse has blown, replace it as follows:
- Open the cover in the engine compartment.
- Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
- Close the cover.
NOTICE
If the multi-function or start fuse has blown, consult an authorized Kia dealer.
