Description and Operation

Description

  • Based on information from various sensors, the ECM calculates the amount of fuel that must be injected.

  • The fuel injector is a solenoid valve, and the fuel injection quantity is controlled by the injection duration.

  • The ECM controls each injector by grounding its control circuit. When the ECM supplies power to the injector by grounding the control circuit, the circuit voltage should be low (theoretically 0 V) and fuel is injected. When the ECM de-energizes the injector by opening the control circuit, the fuel injector closes and the circuit voltage should instantly peak.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. In the engine control system, malfunctions can be quickly diagnosed using the Diagnostic System (KDS).

    1. Self-diagnosis: check for malfunction and diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

    2. Current Data: Check the system input/output status.

    3. Operation check: Check the operating status of the system.

    4. Special Function: Control of other functions, including parameter setting and zero point adjustment.

Component Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.

  2. Disconnect the injector connector.

  3. Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the injector.

  4. Make sure the resistance is within specification.

    Specification: Refer to "Specifications"

Removal

  1. Remove the injector from the delivery pipe.

(Refer to Fuel System - "Injector")

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.
