Smart key functions

The smart key can be used to lock and unlock the vehicle doors (and tailgate).
The engine can also be started. Detailed information is provided below.
Locking
Pressing the button on the front outside door handles with all doors (and tailgate) closed and any door unlocked will lock all doors (and tailgate). If all doors (and tailgate) and the hood are closed, the hazard lights will flash once to confirm that all doors (and tailgate) are locked.
The button will only work when the smart key is within 0.7 m ~ 1 m of the outside door handle. To check whether the doors are locked, check the door lock button inside the vehicle (except Europe) or pull the outside door handle.
Even if the outside door handle buttons are pressed, the doors will not lock and a chime will sound for 3 seconds if any of the following conditions exist:
- The smart key is inside the vehicle.
- The ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ACC or ON position.
- Any door other than the tailgate is open.
Unlock
Pressing the button on the front outside door handles when all doors (including the tailgate) are closed and locked will unlock all doors (including the tailgate).
The hazard lights will flash twice to confirm that all doors (including the tailgate) are unlocked. This button will only work when the smart key is within 0.7 m ~ 1 m of the outside door handle.
When the smart key is detected within 0.7 m ~ 1 m of the outside door handle, other persons without a smart key may also be able to open the doors.
After this button is pressed, the doors will lock automatically unless any door is opened within 30 seconds.
Unlocking the tailgate
If a person carrying the smart key is within 0.7 m of the tailgate outside handle, the tailgate will unlock and can be opened by pressing the handle switch.
The hazard lights will flash twice to confirm that the tailgate is unlocked.
It will also lock automatically if it is opened and then closed.
Starting the engine
The engine can be started without inserting the key into the ignition switch. For detailed information, refer to "Starting the Engine with the Smart Key" in Section 5.
