  1. If the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, make sure the gear selector is in N (Neutral) or P (Park) and the parking brake is applied.
  2. Check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and tightly connected.
  3. Turn on the interior dome light. If the light dims or goes out while the starter is operating, the battery is discharged.
  4. Check the starter terminals to make sure they are securely attached.
  5. Do not push or tow the vehicle to start it. See the instructions on "Jump Starting the Vehicle from an External Battery".
WARNING If the engine will not start, do not push or tow the vehicle. This may result in a collision or other damage. In addition, starting the vehicle by pushing or towing it may overheat the catalytic converter and create a fire hazard.
