Self-Diagnosis with Scan Tool

The KDS/GDS can quickly diagnose SMART KEY system faults. The KDS/GDS can forcibly operate actuators, monitor input/output values, and perform self-diagnosis.

The following three functions are critical in the SMART KEY system.

  1. SMART KEY Device Input Problem.

  2. SMART KEY Unit Problem.

  3. SMART KEY Device Output Problem.

Therefore, the following three diagnostic procedures are the main troubleshooting process.

  1. SMART KEY Unit Input Problem: Switch Diagnosis

  2. SMART KEY Unit Problem: Communication Diagnosis

  3. SMART KEY Unit Output Problem: Antenna and Switch Diagnosis

Switch Diagnosis

  1. Connect the KDS/GDS cable to the data link connector on the driver's side, lower panel of the emergency area, then turn on the KDS/GDS power.

  2. Select the vehicle model, then select the SMART KEY system.

  3. Select "SMART KEY Device".

  4. After turning the IG on, select "Current Data".

  5. You can check the position of each switch on the scan tool after connecting it, using the "Current Data" function.

    Display Description
FL Switch SW ON: The driver's door handle button is on.
FR Switch SW ON: The auxiliary door handle button is on.
Trunk Open SW ON: The trunk lid button is on.
Gear Position P ON: The shift lever is in the P position.
IGN 1 ON: The IGN switch is in the IG position.
ACC ON: The IGN switch is in the ACC position.
Brake SW ON: The brake switch is on.

KDS/GDS Communication Check (Self-Diagnosis)

  1. Communication diagnosis checks whether each related component operates normally.

  2. Connect the KDS/GDS cable to the Data Link Connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel.

  3. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "DTC".

Antenna Activation Diagnosis

  1. Connect the KDS/GDS cable to the Data Link Connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel.

  2. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "Active Test".

  3. Place the smart key near the corresponding antenna and operate it using KDS/GDS.

  4. If the smart key LED blinks, the smart key is normal.

  5. If the smart key LED does not blink, check the smart key battery voltage.

  6. Antenna Activation

    • Interior Antenna 1

    • Interior Antenna 2

    • Trunk Antenna

    • Bumper Antenna

    • Driver Door Antenna

    • Auxiliary Door Antenna

Antenna Status Inspection

  1. Connect the KDS/GDS cable to the Data Link Connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel.

  2. Select "Antenna Status Check".

  3. After turning the IG switch ON, select "Antenna Status Check".

  4. Place the smart key near the corresponding antenna and operate it using KDS/GDS.

  5. If the Smart Key operates normally, the corresponding antenna, Smart Key (transmission, reception) and external receiver are normal.

  6. Antenna Status

    • Interior Antenna 1

    • Interior Antenna 2

    • Trunk Antenna

    • Bumper Antenna

    • Driver Door Antenna

    • Auxiliary Door Antenna

FOB Status Inspection

  1. Connect the KDS/GDS cable to the Data Link Connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel.

  2. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "KEY FOB STATUS INFO".

Smart Key Status Inspection

  1. Connect the KDS/GDS cable to the Data Link Connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel.

  2. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "SMK STATUS INFO".

Neutralization Status: Check

  1. Connect the KDS/GDS cable to the Data Link Connector (DLC) on the driver's side, lower instrument panel.

  2. After turning the ignition switch ON, select "Neutralization Mode".
