  1. To close the cap, turn it clockwise until it clicks. This indicates that the cap is securely tightened.
  2. Close the fuel filler door and press it lightly to make sure it is closed securely.
WARNING - Refueling
  • If pressurized fuel sprays out, it may cover the driver's clothing or skin and expose the driver to the risk of fire and burns. Always open the fuel cap carefully and slowly. If the cap releases fuel or if the driver hears a hissing sound, wait until the sound stops before fully removing the cap.
  • Do not top up fuel after the nozzle has automatically shut off during refueling.
  • Always check that the fuel cap is securely installed to prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident.
WARNING - Refueling Hazards Engine fuels are flammable materials. When refueling, pay particular attention to the following instructions. Failure to observe these instructions may result in serious personal injury, severe burns or death from fire or explosion.
  • Read and follow all warnings posted on the fuel station equipment.
  • Before refueling, locate the emergency fuel shut-off at the filling station, if one is available.
  • Before touching the fuel nozzle, eliminate any potentially dangerous static electricity discharge by touching another metal part of the vehicle at a safe distance from the fuel filler neck, nozzle or other source of vapors.
  • Do not get back into the vehicle once refueling has started, as static electricity may be generated by touching, rubbing or sliding against any object or fabric (polyester, satin, nylon, etc.) capable of generating static electricity. A static discharge may ignite fuel vapors and cause a rapid fire. If the driver must re-enter the vehicle, the driver should again eliminate any potentially dangerous static electricity discharge by touching another metal part of the vehicle at a safe distance from the fuel filler neck, nozzle or other source of gasoline.
  • When using a portable container, place it on the ground before starting to refuel. A static discharge from the container may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Once refueling has started, the container must remain in contact with the vehicle until refueling is complete.

Use only portable plastic containers designed for transporting and storing gasoline.

  • Do not use a mobile phone while refueling. Electrical current and/or electrical interference caused by a mobile phone may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
  • Always turn off the engine while refueling. Sparks generated by electrical components connected to the engine may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Once refueling is complete, make sure the cap and fuel filler door are securely closed before starting the engine.
  • DO NOT use matches or a lighter, DO NOT SMOKE, and do not leave a lit cigarette in your vehicle while at a fuel station, especially while refueling. Engine fuel is highly flammable and, if ignited, may cause a fire.
  • If a fire occurs while refueling, move away from the vehicle immediately, contact the fuel station management, and then notify the local fire department. Follow all recommended safety instructions.
CAUTION
  • Remember to refuel the vehicle in accordance with the "Fuel Requirements" in Section 1.
  • If the fuel filler cap needs to be replaced, use only an genuine Kia fuel filler cap or a replacement designed for your vehicle. An incorrect fuel filler cap may cause serious malfunctions in the fuel system or emission control system.
  • Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. Any fuel spilled on painted surfaces may damage the paint.
  • After refueling, make sure the fuel filler cap is securely tightened to prevent fuel from spilling in the event of an accident.
