The drive modes of the Lexus GS (2016–2020) allow individual adaptation to driving conditions and personal preferences. From the economical ECO mode through NORMAL to the sporty SPORT S+, all settings are explained clearly. The chapter also covers the effects on steering, throttle response and suspension tuning. This allows the driver to adapt the character of the Lexus GS to the situation and make every journey an experience, whether in city traffic or on the motorway.

Turn signal lever

Operation

Immediately after operation, the lever returns to its original position.

  1. Turning right

The right turn signals flash 3 times.

  3. Changing lanes to the left (press the lever and release it halfway).

  4. Turning left

If the turn signals do not stop flashing after turning right or left, or if you want to cancel the flashing

When the lever is moved to position 1 or 4, the selected turn signals flash.

Requirements for operating the turn signals

The engine switch is in the IGNITION ON mode.

If the turn signal flashes faster than usual

Make sure that the bulbs in the front and rear turn signal lights are not burnt out.

If the turn signals stop flashing before a lane change has been completed

Operate the lever again.

Parking brake

The following modes can be selected.

Manual mode

Manueller Modus
  1. Apply the parking brake.

The parking brake indicator light comes on. If it is necessary to apply the parking brake while driving in an emergency, keep the parking brake switch pressed.

  2. Releasing the parking brake

With the brake pedal depressed, press the parking brake switch. Make sure that the parking brake indicator light goes off.

Automatic mode

Automatik-Modus

The parking brake is applied or released automatically depending on the operation of the shift lever.

Turning automatic mode on/off

  • When the shift lever is moved out of "P", the parking brake is released.
  • When the shift lever is moved to "P", the parking brake is applied.

Operate the shift lever with the brake pedal depressed.

Operating the parking brake

  • If the engine switch is not in IGNITION ON mode, the parking brake cannot be released using the parking brake switch.
  • If the engine switch is not in IGNITION ON mode, automatic mode (automatic applying and releasing of the parking brake) is not available.
  • If the parking brake is operated frequently within a short period, the system may prevent operation to protect against overheating. In this case, do not operate the parking brake any more. Normal operation is possible again after approx. 1 minute.
  • Vehicles with towing package: In situations such as parking while towing a trailer, you can apply maximum braking force by pressing the parking brake switch while the parking brake is already applied.
  • Vehicles without towing package: In situations such as parking on a steep slope*, you can apply maximum braking force by pressing the parking brake switch while the parking brake is already applied.

*: Use wheel chocks when parking on a steep slope.

Parking brake operating noise

A motor noise (humming) may be heard when the parking brake is operated. This does not indicate a malfunction.

Parking brake indicator light

  • The duration for which the parking brake indicator light stays on depends on the engine switch mode, as described below. IGNITION ON mode: Stays on until the parking brake is released.

Not in IGNITION ON mode: Stays on for approx. 15 seconds.

  • If the engine switch is turned off while the parking brake is applied, the parking brake indicator light stays on for approx. 15 seconds. This does not indicate a malfunction.

If the system malfunctions

Warning lights and/or warning messages come on or flash.

Depending on the type of malfunction, the parking brake indicator light may also flash.

Use in winter

NOTE

When Parking the Vehicle

Before leaving the vehicle, apply the parking brake, move the shift lever to "P" and make sure that the vehicle does not move.

If the system malfunctions

Stop the vehicle in a safe place and observe the warning messages.

If the parking brake cannot be released due to a malfunction

Use the parking brake release tool. Driving with the parking brake applied causes components of the brake system to overheat, which impairs braking performance and leads to increased brake wear.

The turn signal and parking brake systems in the Lexus GS GRL1 (2016–2020) offer high ease of use and safety. The turn signal lever allows precise lane change and turn signals, while the electronic parking brake can be operated both manually and automatically.

These functions support the premium character of the Lexus GS and make driving and parking easier in all conditions. The driver remains in control at all times.
