Brake Hold function (GS350/GS200t). ASC (Active Sound Control) (GS F)

~5min read

The Lexus GS L10 is equipped with state-of-the-art lighting technology that maximizes visibility and safety. Adaptive LED headlights, automatic high beam and cornering light systems are described in detail and their functions explained. This chapter also provides useful information on using the lighting systems correctly at night, in fog or in rain. This keeps the road optimally illuminated at all times, an essential element of safety in the Lexus GS.

Brake Hold function (GS350/GS200t)

The Brake Hold function keeps the brakes applied when the shift lever is in "D", "M" or "N", the system is activated and the brake pedal has been depressed to stop the vehicle.

The system releases the brakes when the accelerator pedal is depressed while the shift lever is in "D" or "M", to allow smooth starting.

Turning on the Brake Hold system

Brake-Hold-System einschalten

The Brake Hold standby indicator light (green) comes on.

While the system is holding the brakes, the Brake Hold operation indicator light (amber) comes on.

Operating conditions for the Brake Hold system

The Brake Hold system cannot be turned on under the following conditions:

  • The driver's door is not closed.
  • The driver has not fastened the seat belt.
  • "EPB activation cancelled" or "EPB malfunction. Visit a workshop." is shown on the multi-information display.

If any of the above conditions is detected while the Brake Hold system is turned on, the system switches off and the Brake Hold standby indicator light goes out. If any of the conditions is detected while the system is holding the brakes, a warning buzzer also sounds and a message is shown on the multi-information display. The parking brake is then applied automatically.

Brake Hold function

  • If the brake pedal is released for about 3 minutes after the system has started holding the brakes, the parking brake is applied automatically.

In this case, a warning buzzer sounds and a warning message is shown on the multi-information display.

  • To turn off the system while it is holding the brakes, press the brake pedal firmly and press the switch again.
  • The Brake Hold function may not be able to hold the vehicle on a steep slope. In this case, the driver may need to apply the brakes manually. A warning buzzer sounds and the multi-information display informs the driver of this condition.

If the parking brake is applied automatically while the system is holding the brakes

The parking brake is not released automatically. Perform one of the following procedures to release the parking brake, and make sure the parking brake indicator light goes out.

  • Operate the parking brake switch while depressing the brake pedal.
  • Fasten the seat belt, make sure the shift lever is in "D" or "R", and slowly depress the accelerator pedal.

Warning messages and warning buzzer

Warning messages and warning buzzers indicate a system malfunction or alert the driver that special caution is required.

WARNING

When the vehicle is on a steep slope

Use caution when using the Brake Hold system on a steep slope.

The Brake Hold function may not be able to hold the vehicle in such a situation.

When stopping on a slippery road

The system cannot hold the vehicle if the grip limit of the tires has been exceeded. Do not use the system if you have stopped on a slippery road.

NOTE

When Parking the Vehicle

The Brake Hold system is not designed to be used when parking the vehicle for an extended period. If you turn off the engine switch while the system is holding the brakes, the brakes may be released, causing the vehicle to move. When operating the engine switch, depress the brake pedal, apply the parking brake and shift the shift lever to "P".

ASC (Active Sound Control) (GS F)

The ASC system directs certain sounds from the areas in front of and behind the cabin into the vehicle interior and matches them to the actual engine and exhaust sound, so the driver can experience acceleration and the condition of the engine more intensely.

ASC (Active Sound Control) (GS F)

The ASC system operates only when the Sport mode is selected using the Drive Mode Select switch.

In "SPORT S" mode, sounds are output from the rear.

In "SPORT S+" mode, sounds are output from the front and rear.

Turning off the ASC system

Deaktivieren des ASC-Systems

The indicator light on the switch goes out.

Press the switch again to turn the system back on.

Even if the indicator light is on, the ASC system is not operational when the Drive Mode Select switch is in Normal or Eco mode.

Automatic reactivation of the ASC system

Even if the ASC system has been turned off, it is automatically reactivated by turning the engine off and starting it again.

The Brake Hold function in the fourth-generation Lexus GS makes starting off easier in stop-and-go traffic and adds comfort during longer stops. The system keeps the brakes securely held until the driver accelerates again. This makes driving more relaxed and safer, especially in city traffic.

The ASC system in the Lexus GS F enhances the sporty driving experience by channeling engine and exhaust sound into the cabin. This heightens the sense of dynamics and performance in this exclusive sports sedan.
