Adjusting the Steering Wheel and Mirrors
Adjusting the steering wheel and mirrors in the Lexus GS (L10) is a key element for comfort and safety. This chapter describes the power adjustment, the horn, the automatic anti-glare function, and the fold-in and lowering function of the outside mirrors when reversing. Additional information on the heating function, automatic modes and personal safety during adjustment underlines the technological character of the vehicle.
Steering wheel
Adjustment

When the switch is operated, the steering wheel moves in the following directions:
- Up
- Down
- Toward the driver
- Away from the driver
Horn

Automatic Steering Wheel Position Adjustment
A desired steering wheel position can be stored and automatically recalled by the driving position memory system.
Power Ingress/Egress Assist
The steering wheel and driver's seat move depending on the engine switch mode and the driver's seat belt status.
WARNING
Do not adjust the steering wheel while driving.
Otherwise, the driver may lose control of the vehicle and cause an accident that could result in death or serious injury.
Inside Rear View Mirror
The position of the rear view mirror can be adjusted to ensure adequate rearward visibility.
Adjusting the Height of the Rear View Mirror

The height of the rear view mirror can be adjusted to suit your driving position.
Adjust the height of the rear view mirror by moving it up or down.
Anti-Glare Function

The amount of reflected light is automatically reduced according to the brightness of the headlights of vehicles behind you.

ON/OFF
When the automatic anti-glare function is on, the indicator light illuminates.
Each time the engine switch is placed in IGNITION ON mode, the function is turned on.
Press the button to turn the function off. (The indicator light also turns off.)
How to Avoid Sensor Malfunctions

To ensure the sensors function correctly, do not touch or cover them.
WARNING

Folding and Unfolding the Mirrors
Using the Switch

Press the switch to fold the mirrors.
Press it again to unfold the mirrors back to their original position.
Setting the Automatic Mode

In automatic mode, folding and unfolding of the mirrors is linked to locking and unlocking the doors.
Press the "AUTO" switch to turn on automatic mode.
The indicator light illuminates.
Press the switch again to return to manual mode.
Mirror Function Linked to Reverse
When either "L" or "R" on the mirror selector switch is selected, the outside mirrors automatically tilt downward when the vehicle is put in reverse to improve the view of the ground. To disable this function, select neither "L" nor "R".
Adjusting the Mirror Angle for Reverse
Adjust the desired mirror angle with the shift lever in the "R" position.
The adjusted angle is stored, and the mirror automatically tilts until it reaches the stored angle the next time the shift lever is placed in the "R" position.
The stored downward-tilted mirror position is linked to the normal position (the angle set with the shift lever in a position other than "R"). Therefore, the mirror tilt also changes if the normal position is changed after adjustment.
If the normal position has been changed, adjust the angle for reverse again.
Conditions for Mirror Angle Adjustment
The engine switch is in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode.
When Mirrors Are Fogged
The outside mirror heaters can be used to remove fog from the outside mirrors.
Turn on the rear window defroster to also turn on the outside mirror heaters.
Automatic Mirror Angle Adjustment
A desired mirror angle can be stored in the driving position memory and automatically recalled.
Automatic Anti-Glare Function
When the auto-dimming inside rear view mirror is in automatic mode, the amount of reflected light from the outside mirrors is also reduced.
Using Automatic Mode in Cold Weather
When automatic mode is used in cold weather, the outside mirrors may be frozen and cannot fold or unfold automatically.
In this case, remove all ice and snow from the outside mirrors and either operate the mirrors in manual mode or fold them by hand.
WARNING
Important points while driving
Observe the following precautions while driving.
Otherwise, you may lose control of the vehicle and cause an accident that could result in death or serious injury.
- Do not adjust the mirrors while driving.
- Do not drive with the outside mirrors folded.
- Before driving, both outside mirrors must be unfolded and properly adjusted.
While adjusting the mirrors
To prevent both injury and mirror malfunction, make sure your hand is not caught by a moving mirror.
When the outside mirror heaters are operating
Do not touch the outside mirror surfaces, as they can become very hot and cause burns.
In the Lexus GS 4th generation, the steering wheel and mirrors can be adjusted electrically for added comfort. Stored positions can be recalled automatically on request and ideally match the driver's needs. The mirror anti-glare and heating functions also enhance driving comfort.
The combination of high technology and simple operation makes the Lexus GS GRL1 a sports sedan that meets the highest expectations.
