The power windows in the Lexus GS (2016–2020) offer convenience functions such as one-touch auto up/down, pinch protection and window lock. Operation with the remote control or mechanical key is also possible (depending on configuration). This chapter explains initialization and maintenance and provides safety warnings to help prevent accidents, especially when children are present. This keeps the Lexus GS a reliable vehicle for the whole family.

Opening and Closing

Öffnen und Schließen

The windows with power window regulators can be opened and closed using the switches.

The windows respond to switch operation as follows:

  1. Locking
  2. One-touch close*
  3. Open
  4. One-touch open*

*: To stop the window partway, operate the switch in the opposite direction.

The indicator light illuminates.

This switch prevents children from accidentally opening or closing the windows.

Conditions for power window operation

The engine switch is in the IGNITION ON mode.

Power window operation after the engine has been turned off

The power windows can still be operated for approx. 45 seconds after the power switch has been set to ACCESSORY or turned off. However, they cannot be operated once a front door has been opened.

Pinch Protection

If an object becomes trapped between the window and the window frame while the window is closing, window movement stops and the window lowers slightly.

Jam protection function

If an object becomes trapped between the door and the window while the window is opening, window movement stops.

If the window cannot be opened or closed

If the pinch protection function or jam protection function causes abnormal operation and the window cannot be opened or closed, operate the power window switch of the affected door as follows.

  • Stop the vehicle. While the power switch is in IGNITION ON mode, pull or press the power window switch toward "One-touch close" or "One-touch open" within 4 seconds of pinch protection or jam protection being activated, and hold it in that position so the window can be opened and closed.
  • If the window still cannot be opened and closed using the procedure described above, initialize the function as follows.
  1. Switch the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode.
  2. Pull the power window switch toward "One-touch close" and hold it in that position until the window is fully closed.
  3. Release the power window switch briefly, then pull the switch toward "One-touch close" again and hold it in that position for approx. 6 seconds or longer.
  4. Press the power window switch toward "One-touch open" and hold it in that position. When the window is fully open, keep holding the switch in that position for at least 1 second longer.
  5. Release the power window switch briefly, then press the switch toward "One-touch open" again and hold it in that position for approx. 4 seconds or longer.
  6. Pull the power window switch toward "One-touch close" again and hold it in that position. When the window is fully closed, keep holding the switch in that position for at least 1 second longer.

If you release the switch while the window is moving, you must repeat the procedure from the beginning.

If the window movement reverses and the window cannot be fully closed or opened, have the vehicle inspected by a Lexus dealer or authorized repairer, or another qualified and properly equipped specialist workshop.

Window operation linked to door lock

  • The windows with power window regulators can be opened and closed using the mechanical key.*
  • The windows with power window regulators can be opened and closed using the remote control.*

*: Customization of these settings must be performed at a Lexus dealer or authorized repairer, or another qualified workshop with the appropriate equipment.

When the battery is disconnected

The power window lock switch is deactivated. If necessary, press the power window lock switch after reconnecting the battery.

Warning buzzer for open power windows

The warning buzzer sounds and a message is shown on the multi-information display in the combination meter when the power switch is turned off and the driver's door is opened while a power window is still open.

Customization

You can change the settings (e.g., window operation linked to door lock).

WARNING

Observe the following precautions.

Otherwise, fatal or serious injuries may result.

Closing the windows

  • The driver is responsible for all power window operation, including operation of the windows of passengers. To prevent unintentional operation (especially by a child), do not allow children to operate the power windows. Children's body parts and those of other passengers could become trapped in the window. It is also recommended to activate the power window lock switch when a child is riding in the vehicle.
  • Make sure no part of a passenger's body can become trapped in a window while it is being operated.
  • When using the remote control or mechanical key to operate the power windows, first make sure no part of a passenger's body can become trapped in a window. Also make sure that no children operate the power windows with the remote control or mechanical key. Children or other passengers could become trapped in the window.
  • Before leaving the vehicle, turn the engine switch off, take the key with you and exit the vehicle together with the child. Otherwise, during play or similar activity, the switches may be operated unintentionally, which could result in an accident.

Anti-pinch function

  • Never intentionally try to activate the anti-pinch function with a body part.
  • If an object becomes trapped only when the window is almost fully closed, the jam protection function may not activate.

Pinch-protection function

  • Never try to activate the pinch-protection function deliberately with your hands, arms, clothing, etc.
  • If an object becomes trapped only when the window is almost fully open, the pinch-protection function may not activate. Make sure that no hands, arms, clothing, etc. become trapped in the window.

The power windows of the Lexus GS GRL1 provide the highest level of comfort and safety. Features such as the jam protection help ensure that no one is injured when the windows close. The ability to operate the windows with the key or remote transmitter also reflects the vehicle's modern character.

The intuitive layout of the controls keeps window operation simple and reliable at all times.
