Getting to know your Mazda

Fuel economy and environmental protection

~1min read

The way you drive your Mazda determines how far you can travel on one tank of fuel. To reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, follow the recommendations below.

  • Avoid warming up a cold engine for a long time while stationary. Start driving once the engine runs smoothly after starting.
  • Avoid sudden starts.
  • Drive at moderate speeds.
  • Anticipate when braking will be necessary (avoid sudden braking).
  • Follow the maintenance schedule (page 6-3) and use specialist service. We recommend having inspections and service performed at Mazda Authorized Service Centers.
  • Use the air conditioner only when necessary.
  • Drive slowly on rough roads.
  • Maintain correct tire pressure.
  • Do not carry heavy items unnecessarily.
  • Do not rest your foot on the brake pedal while driving.
  • Maintain correct suspension geometry.
  • Keep the windows closed at high speeds.
  • Reduce speed when driving in strong crosswinds and headwinds.

WARNING

Never turn off the engine when driving downhill: Turning off the engine when driving downhill is a safety hazard. When the engine is off, the power steering and brake booster stop working. The drivetrain may be damaged. Loss of control over steering and braking may cause an accident.
