Door Locks

~12min read

WARNING

Always take children or animals with you or leave them in the care of responsible persons: leaving a child or animal unattended in a parked vehicle is dangerous.

On hot days, the temperature inside the vehicle can rise high enough to cause heatstroke or even death.

Never leave the keys in the vehicle when children are inside. Keep the keys out of reach of children so they cannot find or play with them. Leaving children in the vehicle with the key is dangerous.

This may result in serious injury or even death.

Always close all windows, lock the doors and take the key with you when leaving the vehicle unattended. Leaving the vehicle unlocked is dangerous because children may lock the doors themselves in a heated vehicle, which may result in their death. An unlocked vehicle is also an easy target for thieves and intruders.

After closing the doors, always check that they are locked properly. Failing to close the doors securely is dangerous. If you drive with doors that are not securely closed, a door may open unexpectedly and cause an accident.

Always check your surroundings before opening a vehicle door. Opening a door suddenly is dangerous. You may strike a passing vehicle or pedestrian and cause an accident.

  • CAUTION

  • The vehicle is equipped with a function that prevents the door locks from being locked unintentionally when the user is outside the vehicle.

(European models) The locks of all doors and the tailgate will unlock automatically if an attempt is made to lock them using the central locking while any door is open.

If all doors are closed while the tailgate is open, all doors will lock. (Non-European models) The locks of all doors and the tailgate will unlock automatically if an attempt is made to lock them using the central locking while any door or the tailgate is open.

  • (Door unlock system with impact detection)* This system automatically unlocks the doors in the event the vehicle has been involved in a collision, so that occupants can get out of the vehicle immediately and avoid being trapped inside. When the ignition switch is in the ON position and the impact is strong enough for the airbags to deploy, all doors are automatically unlocked approximately 6 seconds after the collision.

The doors may not unlock depending on the type of impact, the force of the impact and other circumstances of the accident. If the door-related systems or the battery are not functioning properly, the doors will not unlock.

Locking and unlocking with the key

When the driver's door is locked with the key, the other doors and the tailgate also lock automatically. All doors and the tailgate unlock when the driver's door is unlocked with the key.

To lock, turn the key toward the front of the vehicle. To unlock, turn the key toward the rear of the vehicle.

Double locking system

The double locking system is designed to prevent a person who has broken into the vehicle from opening the doors from the inside.

If there is any problem with the double locking system, contact a specialist. We recommend an Authorized Mazda Dealer.

WARNING

Never activate the double locking system while passengers, especially children, remain in the vehicle. Activating the system while passengers, especially children, are in the vehicle is a safety hazard. Passengers will not be able to open the doors from the inside. They will be trapped and exposed to high temperatures. This may result in serious injury or death.

How to activate the system

1. Close all windows.

2. Remove the key from the ignition switch and take it with you.

3. Close all doors and the tailgate.

4. Insert the key into the driver's door lock, turn it to the lock position, then back to the center position. Then turn it to the lock position again within 3 seconds.
