Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) automatically controls braking and engine torque using systems such as the ABS and TCS to control lateral skidding when driving on slippery surfaces, or during sudden or evasive maneuvers, which improves vehicle safety.
Refer to ABS (page 4-99) and TCS (page 4-100).
DSC operation is only possible at speeds above 20 km/h.
A malfunction in the system or operating conditions is indicated by a warning.
Refer to Indicator and Warning Lights on page 4-24.
WARNING
Do not rely on Dynamic Stability Control to replace safe driving:
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) cannot compensate for dangerous driving, excessive speed, following the vehicle ahead too closely, or hydroplaning (loss of traction caused by water on the road). An accident is always possible.
WARNING
DSC may not function properly if the following points are not observed:
- Use tires of the correct size for this Mazda vehicle on all four wheels.
- Use tires from the same manufacturer, of the same brand and with the same tread pattern on all four wheels.
- Do not mix worn tires with new tires.
DSC may not function properly if tire chains are used or if a temporary spare tire is installed, because the wheel diameter is different.
DSC OFF switch
Press the DSC OFF switch to turn the Traction Control System/Dynamic Stability Control off. The DSC OFF indicator light comes on in the instrument panel.

Press the DSC OFF switch again to turn the Traction Control System/Dynamic Stability Control back on. The DSC OFF indicator light then goes off.
NOTE
- When the Dynamic Stability Control system is on and you try to free the vehicle when it is stuck in a snowbank, or accelerate on powdery snow, the traction control system (part of the Dynamic Stability Control) will activate. Even if you depress the accelerator pedal, the engine speed will not increase and it may be difficult to control the vehicle. In such a case, turn the traction control system/Dynamic Stability Control system off.
- If the traction control system/Dynamic Stability Control system is off and the ignition is turned off, it will automatically turn back on when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
- For optimal stability, leave the traction control system/Dynamic Stability Control system on.
- If the DSC OFF switch is pressed and held for 10 seconds or more, the DSC OFF switch malfunction detection function will engage and the Dynamic Stability Control system will be turned on automatically. The DSC OFF indicator light turns off while the Dynamic Stability Control system is on.
