Traction Control System (TCS)
The Traction Control System (TCS) improves traction and safety by controlling engine torque and braking. When the TCS detects wheel spin, it reduces engine torque and applies the brakes to prevent loss of traction.
This means that on slippery surfaces, the engine is automatically adjusted to deliver optimum power to the drive wheels, limiting wheel spin and loss of traction.
A malfunction in the system or operating conditions is indicated by a warning.
Refer to Indicator and Warning Lights on page 4-24.
WARNING
Do not rely on the Traction Control System (TCS) to replace safe driving:
The Traction Control System (TCS) cannot compensate for dangerous driving, excessive speed, following the vehicle ahead too closely, or hydroplaning (reduced friction and tire contact with the road due to water on the road). An accident is always possible.
Use snow tires or chains and drive at reduced speeds when roads are covered with snow or ice:
Driving without the proper equipment on roads covered with snow or ice is dangerous.
The TCS alone cannot provide adequate traction, and an accident is always possible.
NOTE
To turn off the TCS, press the DSC OFF switch (page 4-101).
