CV Joint Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. If checks (refer to subsection 2.3.16.2) indicate possible CV joint wear, proceed as follows.
2. Remove the wheel cap.
3. Remove the wheel cap and check the tightness of the axle shaft nut.
4. If there is an indication that the nut is not tightened sufficiently, remove the cotter pin, lock washer, and spacer.
5. Check the tightening torque with a torque wrench, install the removed parts in place and secure with a new cotter pin.
6. Perform these operations on the other wheel.
7. Slowly drive in a circle with the steering wheel fully turned and check whether metal-to-metal clicks occur from the front of the vehicle.
8. Turn the steering wheel fully in the opposite direction and listen again.
9. If metallic clicks are heard, the outer CV joint of the driveshaft is worn.
10. If vibrations are heard that intensify during acceleration, the inner joint is worn.
11. To check joint wear, remove and disassemble the driveshaft and check all play and the condition of the joints.
12. The joint is replaced only as an assembly.
