Driving the vehicle

Standby conditions

~1min read

The vehicle has moved since the last stop.

For vehicles with automatic transmission:

  • the selector lever is in position D, M or N; and
  • the brake pedal is pressed (firmly enough); and
  • the accelerator pedal is not pressed; and
  • the vehicle speed is zero for about one second.

The engine remains in standby mode when P or N is selected with the parking brake applied and the brake pedal released.

For vehicles with manual transmission:

  • the gear lever is in neutral; and
  • the clutch pedal is released; Flashing warning lamp
indicates that the clutch pedal has not been fully released; and
  • the vehicle speed is below approximately 3 km/h.

On all vehicles the warning lampremains lit continuously on the instrument panel,
warning that the engine has entered standby mode.

Other vehicle systems operate normally while the engine is stopped.

If the engine stalls while the system is active, fully depressing the clutch pedal restarts the engine.

Power steering does not operate when the engine is in standby mode.

Brake servo does not operate when the engine is in standby mode.

Do not drive the vehicle while the engine is in standby mode (the warning lamp appears on the instrument panel). Before leaving the vehicle, the engine must be switched off by pressing the off button (see section "Starting and switching off the engine").
