Exiting engine standby mode

~1min read

For vehicles with automatic transmission:

  • the brake pedal is released and the gear lever is in position D or M,
  • the brake pedal is released, the lever is in position N and the parking brake is released; or
  • the brake pedal is pressed again; the lever is in position P or N with the parking brake applied, or
  • in position R, or
  • the accelerator pedal is pressed.

For vehicles with manual transmission:

  • the gear lever is in neutral and the clutch pedal is slightly pressed, or
  • a gear is engaged and the clutch pedal is fully pressed.

Special note: in some vehicles, switching off the ignition while the engine is in standby mode causes the warning lampon the instrument panel
. The lamp goes out after a few seconds.

When refuelling, the engine must be completely switched off (not in standby mode): be sure to switch off the engine by pressing the engine off button (see section "Starting-switching off the engine").
