REMOVAL

Place a pedal depressor in the passenger compartment (this limits brake fluid flow).

Loosen the brake hose on the caliper end.

Remove the brake pads (see previous page).

Remove the two caliper mounting bolts from the steering knuckle.

Unscrew the hose completely by turning the brake caliper.

Check the condition of the hose and replace it if necessary.

INSTALLATION

Screw the hose back onto the caliper.

Remove the pedal depressor.

To check that the caliper bleed is working correctly, loosen the bleed screw and wait for the brake fluid to flow out.

Retighten the bleed screw.

Refit the caliper bracket to the steering knuckle and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

Refit the pads and the caliper (follow the procedure described previously).

REPAIR

NOTE: any scratch in the caliper bore requires replacing the complete caliper.

To do so:

  • Remove the brake caliper,
  • remove the dust cover,
  • push the piston out using compressed air, placing a wooden block between the caliper and the piston to prevent damage to the piston. Any impact mark on the skirt makes it unusable,
  • remove the seal from the caliper groove using a flexible blade with a rounded edge (such as a feeler gauge).

Clean the parts with denatured alcohol.

Replace all defective parts with genuine parts, then refit the seal, piston and dust cover.
