AEB Warning Message and System Control

~2min read

AEB provides warning messages and warning signals according to the collision risk levels. It also controls the brakes according to the collision risk levels.

This initial warning message appears on the LCD display with a warning sound.

The driver can select the timing of the Forward Collision Initial Warning in the user settings on the driver's LCD display. Forward Collision Initial Warning options include FAST, NORMAL, or LATE timing.

  • This warning message appears on the LCD display with a warning sound.
  • In addition, the engine control system intervenes in some vehicle systems to help slow the vehicle.
    - If the detected vehicle ahead is traveling at less than 80 km/h, your vehicle may decelerate sharply to avoid a collision. If the detected vehicle ahead is traveling at more than 80 km/h, your vehicle may decelerate moderately.
    - If your vehicle is traveling at less than 40 mph (65 km/h) and a pedestrian is detected at the collision warning stage (second warning), your vehicle may decelerate sharply to avoid a collision.

Emergency Braking (3rd Warning)

  • This warning message appears on the LCD display together with a warning signal.
  • Additionally, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) is applied to help avoid a collision.
    - If your vehicle is traveling at less than 40 mph (65 km/h) and a pedestrian is detected during emergency braking, the AEB applies braking to the vehicle. In this condition, your vehicle's speed will decrease rapidly to help avoid a collision.
    - When your vehicle is traveling at less than 65 km/h in the presence of a pedestrian ahead, vehicle speed may decrease rapidly. When your vehicle is traveling faster than 65 km/h with a pedestrian ahead, the AEB system does not operate.

Brake Operation

  • In an emergency situation, the brake system enters a standby state to respond quickly when the driver presses the brake pedal.
  • AEB provides additional braking force for optimal braking performance when the driver depresses the brake pedal.
  • Brake control is automatically canceled when the driver depresses the brake pedal rapidly or when the driver turns the steering wheel rapidly.
  • Braking control is automatically canceled when the risk factors disappear.

CAUTION

The driver must always exercise extreme caution when driving the vehicle, whether or not there is a warning message or alarm from the AEB system.

WARNING

Brake control cannot completely stop the vehicle or avoid all collisions. The driver is responsible for driving safely and controlling the vehicle.

WARNING

AEB system logic operates within certain parameters, such as the distance to the vehicle or pedestrian ahead, the speed of the vehicle ahead, and the speed of your vehicle. Certain conditions, such as inclement weather and road conditions, may affect AEB system operation.
