Winter Tires and Snow Chains
When driving on snow and ice, winter tires and snow chains are recommended. On wet or dry roads, winter tires provide less grip than standard tires.
The type and construction of winter tires must match the type and construction of the tires fitted to the vehicle. When fitting studded tires, observe the regulations in force in your region.
Installing Winter Tires
To avoid uneven wheel grip on the road and loss of vehicle control, winter tires must be fitted to all wheels. Store removed tires in a cool, dry place. When refitting tires, keep the previously established rotation pattern.
* Tire pressure must be within specification.
* Do not exceed the maximum speed specified for winter tires.
Snow Chain Rules
Install snow chains of the correct size, following local regulations.
Snow chains on the front wheels must fit as tightly as possible against the tire.
Do not fit snow chains to the rear wheels. After driving 0.5–1 km, retighten the chains.
When fitting chains, follow the chain manufacturer's instructions. If the wheels have decorative covers, remove them to prevent damage from the chains.
Safety Precautions
Maximum speed with chains 50 km/h (or must correspond to the limit set by the chain manufacturer, whichever is lower).
While driving, avoid sharp turns and driving over bumps, as the vehicle may be thrown out of its track.
