Actions if the Engine Does Not Start

Checking the Coolant Level

~1min read

Check the coolant level with the engine cold through the transparent reservoir wall. The level should be between the LOW and FULL marks on the reservoir. If necessary, add coolant of the same type as is in the system. Bring the level up to the upper mark.
If the coolant level drops quickly in the reservoir, inspect the radiator, hoses, radiator cap, drain cock, and coolant pump. If no leak is found, check the cap valve opening pressure at an automotive service facility.|

The arrow indicates the drain plug.
Coolant consists of antifreeze (ethylene glycol) and corrosion inhibitors.
Coolant with corrosion inhibitors may be used only in regions where freezing is not possible.
Toyota Radiator Conditioner or an equivalent is recommended as a corrosion inhibitor.
The frost protection and corrosion inhibitor properties and the recommended water ratios are indicated on the container by the manufacturer. The cooling system capacity is given in
subsection 1.8. Antifreeze is recommended to be mixed with water at a 50:50 ratio, or at a ratio that provides a freezing point no higher than –35 °C.
Do not use alcohol-based antifreeze or fill the cooling system with plain water.
Illumination of the fuel filter warning lamp indicates that water must be drained from the filter immediately.

PROCEDURE
1. Place a pan under the drain plug.
2. Turn the plug counterclockwise 2–2.5 turns (if loosened further, water will flow around the edge of the plug).
3. Pump fuel with the hand pump until fuel flows out.
4. Tighten the plug by hand (do not use tools).
