Child safety in the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) includes clear recommendations on placement and use of ISOFIX systems. This section describes suitable child seats, warnings, and the importance of correct attachment for protecting the youngest passengers.

Child seat - placement

Always place child seats/booster cushions in the rear seat when the passenger airbag is activated. If the airbag deploys, a child sitting in the front passenger seat can be seriously injured.

The label with the warning about the passenger airbag is located in one of the following two places in the vehicle:

Möglichkeit 1: Airbagaufkleber an der Sonnenblende auf Beifahrerseite.
Option 1: Airbag label on the passenger-side sun visor.

Möglichkeit 2: Airbagaufkleber an der Türsäule auf Beifahrerseite. Der Aufkleber ist zu sehen, wenn die Beifahrertür geöffnet wird.
Option 2: Airbag label on the passenger-side door pillar. The label is visible when the passenger door is opened.

The following may be used:

  • a child seat/booster cushion in the front passenger seat, provided the passenger airbag is deactivated.
  • one or more child seats/booster cushions in the rear seat.
WARNING

Never place a rear-facing child seat on a seat with an active airbag. Failure to observe this warning may result in serious injury or death to the child.

WARNING

Never let children sit in a child seat or on a seat cushion on the front seat when the airbag is activated.

Do not allow anyone to stand or sit in front of the passenger seat.

Persons under 140 cm in height must never sit on the passenger seat when the airbag is activated.

Failure to observe the above instructions may result in a risk of death.

WARNING

Booster cushions or child seats with steel brackets or other structures that can rest against the buckle release button must not be used, as they can cause the seat belt buckle to open unintentionally.

The upper part of the child seat must not rest against the windshield.

Child seat - ISOFIX

ISOFIX is a child seat attachment system based on an international standard.

Kindersitz - ISOFIX

The ISOFIX anchorage points are hidden behind the lower part of the backrest in the rear outer seating positions.

The position of the anchorage points is marked by symbols on the backrest cover (see previous illustration).

To reach the anchorage points, press down on the seat cushion of the seating position.

When attaching a child seat to the ISOFIX anchorage points, always follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.

WARNING

Never place a child in the front passenger seat when the vehicle has an activated airbag.

CAUTION

If the ISOFIX child seat system has no size class, the vehicle model must be listed in the child seat's vehicle list.

CAUTION

Volvo recommends that you consult a Volvo retailer for Volvo recommendations regarding ISOFIX child seats.

ISOFIX - child seat types

Child seats, like vehicles, come in different sizes. For this reason, not all child seats can be installed in all seating positions in every vehicle model.

ISOFIX - Kindersitz-Typen
ISOFIX - Kindersitz-Typen

X: The ISOFIX position is not suitable for ISOFIX child seats in this weight class and/or size class.

IL: Suitable for specific ISOFIX child restraint systems. These child seats may be approved for a specific vehicle model, or in the restricted or semi-universal categories.

IUF: Suitable for forward-facing ISOFIX child restraint systems with universal approval for this weight class.

Volvo recommends rear-facing child seats for this group.

Make sure you select the correct size class for child seats with the ISOFIX fastening system.

In the Volvo S80 (2nd generation), child safety is the top priority. ISOFIX anchorages, tested child seats and clear placement recommendations make sure that small passengers are optimally protected. The anchorages are easy to access and provide a secure fit.

Whether in the rear seat or on the front passenger seat (with the airbag deactivated), clear markings and instructions make it easier to select and install the right child seat. Families thus benefit from the highest level of comfort and the best possible safety.

Volvo recommends always using approved and tested child seats, and contacting a Volvo Retailer with any questions to ensure maximum safety.
