Passenger airbag. Passenger airbag - activation/deactivation*
The passenger airbag in the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) is an important part of occupant protection. This section explains how the airbag works, when it must be deactivated, and which safety precautions must be observed in connection with child seats.
Front passenger airbag
In addition to the seat belt for the front passenger seat, the vehicle is equipped with an airbag.
The airbag is folded and mounted in an area above the glove compartment.
The trim is marked AIRBAG.

Location of the passenger airbag in left-hand drive vehicles.

Location of the passenger airbag in right-hand drive vehicles.
The label with the warning about the passenger airbag is located in one of the following two places in the vehicle:

Option 1: Airbag label on the passenger-side sun visor.

Option 2: Airbag label on the passenger-side door pillar. The label is visible when the passenger door is opened.
Never place a rear-facing child seat on a seat with an active airbag. Failure to observe this warning may result in serious injury or death to the child.
WARNINGThe seat belt and the airbag work together. If the seat belt is not used, or is used incorrectly, this can reduce the effectiveness of the airbag in a collision.
To avoid injury when the airbag deploys, occupants must sit as upright as possible, with their feet on the floor and their backs against the backrest. The seat belt must be fastened snugly.
WARNINGDo not place objects in front of or on the dashboard at the location of the passenger airbag.
WARNINGNever let children sit in a child seat or on a seat cushion on the front seat when the airbag is activated.
Do not allow anyone to stand or sit in front of the passenger seat.
Persons under 140 cm in height must never sit on the passenger seat when the airbag is activated.
Failure to observe the above instructions may result in a risk of death.
Switch - PACOS*
The passenger airbag can be deactivated if the vehicle is equipped with a PACOS switch (Passenger Airbag Cut Off Switch).
WARNINGIf the vehicle has a passenger airbag but no PACOS switch (Passenger Airbag Cut Off Switch), the airbag is always activated.

Check that the switch is in the desired position. The key blade of the transponder key is used to change the position.

The indicator in the roof console then lights up and shows the correct status of the front passenger airbag.

Indicator showing that the front passenger airbag is active.
A warning symbol in the roof console shows that the front passenger airbag is active (see previous illustration).
WARNINGNever place a child in a child seat or on a booster cushion on the front passenger seat when the airbag is active and the symbol
in the roof console is lit. Failure to observe this warning may result in fatal injury to the child.

Indicator showing that the front passenger airbag is deactivated.
A text message and a symbol in the roof console show that the front passenger airbag is deactivated (see previous illustration).
WARNINGDo not allow anyone to sit in the front passenger seat if the message in the roof console shows that the airbag is deactivated while the airbag system warning symbol (p. 30) appears in the instrument cluster. This indicates a serious fault. Contact a workshop immediately. Volvo recommends contacting an authorized Volvo workshop.
