Fuel tank and fuel pump

Fuel line

~1min read

On fuel-injected engines, hoses and lines must withstand pressures of more than 5 bar. The hoses are therefore made of a special high-pressure-resistant material, and at connection points they are secured with screw clamps or clamped with hose clamps.

Removing fuel hoses and lines
PROCEDURE

Cleanliness is the first rule when working on the fuel system. Before starting work, clean at least the area in which you will work so that dirt does not enter the open fuel line.

Removing clamps: use pliers to squeeze the metal ears of the clamp. This expands the clamp, after which the line hose can be removed by twisting motions.

If this is not possible, place a small open-end wrench on the end of the hose and pry the clamp open with it.

When installing, use bolted connections instead of worm-drive clamps.

When working on 5-cylinder engine models with KE-III-Jetronic injection, note that the fuel system remains under pressure even a long time after the engine is switched off.

When removing the fuel line, keep a rag ready so that fuel does not accidentally spray into your eyes.
