The settings section for the BMW 5 Series (7th generation) describes how to individually configure doors, tailgate, mirrors or panoramic glass roof. Automatic locking, seat position or confirmation signals can be adjusted via the iDrive system. Ideal for drivers who want to personalise their vehicle's behaviour.

General

Depending on equipment and country variant, various settings for opening and closing are available.

These settings are saved for the currently used driver profile.

Unlocking

Doors

Via iDrive:

  1. "My Vehicle"
  2. "Vehicle settings"
  3. "Doors/Keys"
  4. "Driver's door" or"All doors"
  5. Select the desired setting:
  • "Driver's door only" Only the driver's door and fuel filler flap are unlocked. Pressing again unlocks the entire vehicle.
  • "All doors" The entire vehicle is unlocked.

Tailgate

Depending on equipment and country variant, this setting may not be offered.

Via iDrive:

  1. "My Vehicle"
  2. "Vehicle settings"
  3. "Doors/Keys"
  4. "Tailgate" or"Tailgate and door(s)"
  5. Select the desired setting:
  • "Tailgate" The tailgate is opened.
  • "Tailgate and door(s)" The tailgate is opened and the doors are unlocked.

Vehicle confirmation signals

Via iDrive:

  1. "My Vehicle"
  2. "Vehicle settings"
  3. "Doors/Keys"
  4. "Flash when locking/unlocking" Unlocking is confirmed by flashing twice, locking by flashing once.

Automatic locking

Via iDrive:

  1. "My Vehicle"
  2. "Vehicle settings"
  3. "Doors/Keys"
  4. Select the desired setting:
  • "Lock automatically" If no door is opened after unlocking, the vehicle locks again automatically after a short time.
  • "Lock when driving off" The vehicle locks automatically after driving off.

Automatic unlocking

Via iDrive:

  1. "My Vehicle"
  2. "Vehicle settings"
  3. "Doors/Keys"
  4. "Unlock after end of journey"

After switching off Ready mode by pressing the Start/Stop button, the locked vehicle is unlocked automatically.

Set last seat, mirror and steering wheel position

Via iDrive:

  1. "My Vehicle"
  2. "Driver profiles"
  3. Select driver profile.
Settings can be changed for the driver profile marked with this symbol.
  • "Last seat position automatically" When the vehicle is unlocked, the last set positions of the driver's seat and exterior mirror are restored. After Ready mode is switched on, the steering wheel moves to the last set position.

    • Close glass roof automatically

    Via iDrive:

    1. "My Vehicle"
    2. "Vehicle settings"
    3. "Doors/Keys"
    4. "Close roof automatically" If the vehicle was parked with the glass roof open, the glass roof closes automatically when rain begins.

    Fold mirrors automatically

    Via iDrive:

    1. "My Vehicle"
    2. "Vehicle settings"
    3. "Doors/Keys"
    4. "Fold mirrors when locking" When locking, the exterior mirrors fold in automatically; when unlocking, they fold out automatically.

    Switch vehicle off after opening the front doors

    Via iDrive:

    1. "My Vehicle"
    2. "Vehicle settings"
    3. "Doors/Keys"
    4. "Switch vehicle off after door opening" When the front doors are opened, the vehicle is switched to the off state.

    The extensive settings for doors, mirrors and comfort functions in the BMW 5 Series (G30/G31) offer a high degree of individual adjustment. All options are clearly structured and can be conveniently accessed and saved via iDrive.

    It is particularly valuable that these configurations can be directly assigned to a driver profile. This allows the BMW 5 Series (G30/G31) to adapt seamlessly to its driver's wishes, from automatic mirror folding to comfort closing in the rain.
