Driver profiles
Driver profiles in the BMW 5 Series G30 allow you to save individual settings such as seat position, radio stations or navigation. This manual shows how to manage, rename, export or import profiles. Particularly useful when several drivers use the vehicle: each remote control automatically calls up its assigned profile.
Principle
Driver profiles store the individual settings of several drivers and can be recalled when needed.
General
Three driver profiles are available, in which personal vehicle settings are stored. Each remote control is assigned to one of these driver profiles.
When the vehicle is unlocked with a remote control, the assigned driver profile is activated. All settings stored in the driver profile are applied automatically.
If several drivers each use their own remote control, the vehicle adapts to the personal settings when unlocking. These settings are also restored if another person has used the vehicle with a different remote control in the meantime.
Changes to settings are automatically saved in the currently used driver profile.
If a different driver profile is selected via iDrive, the settings stored in it are applied automatically. The new driver profile is assigned to the currently used remote control.
In addition, a guest profile is available that is not assigned to any remote control. It can be used to make changes to the vehicle
settings without altering the personal driver profiles.
Prerequisites for operation
So that the driver profile matching the driver can be set, the assignment of the detected remote control to the driver must be unambiguous.
This unambiguous assignment is given under the following conditions:
- The driver carries only their own remote control.
- The driver unlocks the vehicle.
- The driver gets into the vehicle through the driver's door.
Currently used driver profile
After switching on the Control Display, the name of the currently used driver profile is displayed.
Select driver profile 70.
As soon as the engine is started or any button is pressed, the last selected display is shown on the Control Display.
To exit the welcome screen via iDrive: "OK"

Profile management
Select driver profile
Regardless of the currently used remote control, a different driver profile can be called up. This allows the personal vehicle settings to be retrieved when the vehicle was not unlocked with your own remote control.
Via iDrive:
- "My Vehicle"
- "Driver profiles"
- Select driver profile.
- "OK"
- The settings stored in the selected driver profile are applied automatically.
- The selected driver profile is assigned to the currently used remote control.
- If the driver profile is already assigned to another remote control, this driver profile is valid for both remote controls.
Guest profile
The guest profile allows individual settings to be made that are not stored in any of the three personal driver profiles.
This can be advantageous when the vehicle is temporarily used by drivers without their own driver profile.
Via iDrive:
- "My Vehicle"
- "Driver profiles"
- "Just drive (guest)"
- "OK"
The guest profile cannot be renamed.
It is not assigned to the currently used remote control.
Rename driver profile
To avoid confusion between driver profiles, a personal name can be given to the currently used driver profile.
Via iDrive:
- "My Vehicle"
- "Driver profiles"
- Select driver profile.
The driver profile marked with this symbol can be renamed.Reset driver profile
The settings of the active driver profile are reset to the factory settings.
Via iDrive:
- "My Vehicle"
- "Driver profiles"
- Select driver profile.
The driver profile marked with this symbol can be reset.Export driver profile
Most settings of the currently used driver profile can be exported.
This can be useful for saving and recalling personal settings, e.g. before a visit to the workshop. The saved driver profiles can be transferred to another vehicle.
Via iDrive:
- "My Vehicle"
- "Driver profiles"
- Select driver profile.
The driver profile marked with this symbol can be exported.- "USB device" If necessary, select the USB storage device.
- ConnectedDrive.
Import driver profile
Existing settings of the currently used driver profile will be overwritten with the settings of the imported driver profile.
Via iDrive:
- "My Vehicle"
- "Driver profiles"
- Select the driver profile to be overwritten.
The driver profile marked with this symbol can be overwritten.- USB storage device: "USB device" If necessary, select the USB storage device.
- ConnectedDrive.
- Select the driver profile to be imported.
System limitations
For example, it is not always possible to assign a remote control clearly to a driver in the following cases.
- The front passenger unlocks the vehicle with their remote control, but another person drives.
- The driver unlocks the vehicle via Comfort Access while carrying several remote controls.
- When the driver changes without the vehicle being locked or unlocked.
- When several remote controls are located outside the vehicle.
The driver profiles in the BMW 5 Series (G30/G31) provide a high degree of individualisation and convenience. Each driver benefits from automatically loaded settings, from seat position to sound settings, tailored to their personal preferences.
Thanks to simple management via iDrive and the option to export or import profiles, switching between different users is seamless and convenient. This makes the BMW 5 Series (G30/G31) a prime example of intelligent vehicle adaptation.
FAQQuestion 1: Can I transfer my driver profile to another vehicle?
