Checking the engine oil level

1. Park the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface.
2. Warm up the engine to operating temperature and switch it off.
3. After approx. 5 minutes, remove the dipstick and wipe it with a lint-free cloth or paper towel.
4. Carefully insert the dipstick fully into the tube and pull it out again.
5. The level is normal when it is between the two marks on the dipstick.

Oil consumption, like fuel consumption, depends on driving style and operating conditions.

The difference between the two marks on the dipstick corresponds to approx. 1 litre. Never fill oil above the upper mark. Excess oil is harmful to the engine.

X5 4.8is: with sporty driving style, the oil level should be close to the upper mark on the dipstick.
