Refrigerant Handling Precautions

~1min read

GENERAL INFORMATION.

The working medium in the A/C system is refrigerant, a chemical mixture that is hazardous to health and requires compliance with

specific handling rules. When performing work that involves opening

the A/C system, always wear safety goggles and wrap the fittings and valves with a clean cloth.

All work on the A/C system must be performed

in a well-ventilated area, and avoid inhaling refrigerant vapors..

Welding or steam cleaning of any pipes or components is prohibited

of the A/C system without prior removal from the vehicle. If refrigerant contacts

exposed skin, rinse the affected areas with a stream of water. Refrigerant is transported and stored in containers with sturdy metal screw caps that protect the valve and safety plug from damage. It is recommended to

reinstall the cap after each use of the container. Do not

transport refrigerant containers in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
