Warning Always make sure your child is secured in a restraint that is appropriate for their height, age and weight. Child restraints must be purchased separately from your vehicle. Failure to follow these instructions and recommendations may result in an increased risk of serious injury or death to your child.
Caution All children are shaped differently. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and other safety organizations base their child restraint recommendations on the approximate height, age and weight thresholds of children, or on minimum legal requirements. We recommend that you consult a NHTSA-certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) to make sure you install the child restraint correctly in your vehicle, and that you consult your pediatrician to make sure the child restraint is suitable for your child. To locate a child seat installation station and CPST, contact NHTSA at the toll-free number 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.dot.gov. In Canada, contact Transport Canada at the toll-free number 1-800-333-0371 or visit www.tc.gc.ca to find a child seat clinic in your area. Failure to properly restrain children in child restraints designed for their height, age and weight may result in an increased risk of serious injury or death to your child.
On warm days, the temperature inside a vehicle can rise very quickly. Exposure of people or animals to these high temperatures, even for a short time, may result in death or serious heat injuries, including brain damage. Small children are especially at risk.
Never place a rear-facing child restraint in front of an active front airbag. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury or death.
Always properly restrain children up to 12 years old in the rear seat, when possible. If you cannot properly restrain all children in the rear seat, properly restrain the largest child in the front seat. If you must use a forward-facing child restraint in the front seat, move the seat as far back as possible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or death.
Warning Always carefully follow the instructions and warnings provided by the manufacturer of any child restraint to determine whether the restraint is suitable for your child's size, height, weight or age. Follow the child restraint manufacturer's installation and use instructions and warnings together with the instructions and warnings provided by your vehicle manufacturer. A child seat that is improperly installed or used, or that does not suit your child's height, age or weight, may increase the risk of serious injury or death.
Caution Never allow a passenger to hold a child on their lap while the vehicle is moving. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury or death in the event of a sudden stop or collision.
Do not use pillows, books or towels to raise the child's height. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury or death.
Always properly secure child restraints or booster seats when they are not in use. They may become projectiles in a sudden stop or collision. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury or death.
Do not place the shoulder belt portion of the seat belt under the arm or behind the back, and do not allow a child to do so. Failure to follow this instruction may reduce the effectiveness of the seat belt and increase the risk of injury or death in a collision.
Never leave children or pets unattended in your vehicle. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury or death.
When installing a child restraint with the seat belt:
Set the vehicle seat to the upright position before installing the child restraint.
Use the correct seat belt buckle for this seating position.
Insert the belt tongue into the buckle. Make sure the tongue is securely latched in the buckle.
Hold the buckle release button up and away from the child restraint, with the tongue between the child restraint and the release button, to prevent accidental unlatching.
Place the seat belt in automatic locking mode.
